Merry Christmas Eve (part two)!

I know we are about a week behind, but Babyface, Puppyface and I are finally getting to celebrate our Christmas. We have spent the past 3 years having Christmas just on our own and have developed quite a few of our own traditions. Just because we were in Canada for the actual holiday this year we weren’t going to abandon them. We just moved them to a week later!

I was a little worried about getting into the Christmas spirit on New Year’s Day, but a little Bing on vinyl solved that pretty quickly.

First things first, we open one gift on Christmas Eve. But a surprise it isn’t, we open jammies (also known just as “Js” in our house)!

I got super cozy fleece pants and an AMAZING Moosejaw shirt. <3 Moosejaw! I also got a pair of Moosejaw yoga pants, but they are just a touch too small. Soon! Babyface got fleece penguin jammies, cuz they’re amazing.

After we are in our comfies, our traditional Christmas Eve dinner is fondue!

Main course, cheese fondue.

Dippers : blanched broccoli, olive bread and Italian sausage. Bloomingtonians: this bread is highly recommended. Yum!

Everything is better dipped in cheese.

1 lb. extra sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 tsp. flour
1 cup beer (your favorite!)
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
Dash of cayenne
Salt to taste

Mix cheese with flour, coating well. In a fondue pot heat beer not quite to boiling. Stirring constantly, add cheese a little at a time. Over medium heat stir until smooth. Stir in mustard, Worcestershire, cayenne and salt. Continue to stir until well blended. Serve with celery, ham, sausages, bread cubes, apple or any blanched vegetable or precooked shrimp. Serves 4-6 (we half this recipe and it is a nice hefty fondue for the two of us).

Somehow I managed not to photograph a single bit of our chocolate fondue. But trust me, we had it and it was amazing. Dippers were strawberries, bananas and cheesecake squares! Oh, and an entire bottle of wine was consumed.

I should really go to bed. Santa is making a special encore appearance at our house tonight. There are a ton of presents to open tomorrow and our very, very special Christmas Day breakfast. You don’t want to miss it. G’night!

  1. I’m becoming very fondu of your blogs. Oops… I know, that was cheesy but I just couldn’t resist. Okay, that one was totally unintentional. Honest!

    • HAHAA. I totally laughed out loud at that one. :P

  2. We do jammies on Christmas Eve at our house too! And often fondue, either for Christmas Eve or Thanksgiving Eve!
