Does anyone else suffer from CFHS?

That’d be Chronic Freezing Hand Syndrome. It’s a nasty infliction that causes one’s hands to be constantly, uncontrollably cold. Symptoms include: rings that fall of easily, husbands that shriek like little girls when you touch them and a love of mittens.

There are lots of cures for CFHS, but my favorite is holding a warm, cozy mug of tea.

After seeing me talk about using chai mix on here, my oldest sister called and shared her recipe for chai tea lattes. I have no idea why it didn’t occur to me before to make my own, but it is genius! You can control the sugar and the ingredients. Oh, and it is also a ton cheaper than frequenting your local coffee shop or buying the concentrate. Good call, Mandy!

Chai Tea Latte

2 c. water
1 black tea bags
1 cinnamon stick
2 whole cloves
1/4 tsp ground ginger
6 cardamom seeds, crushed
2 c. milk
1/4 c. sugar
Cinnamon for garnish

Bring first six ingredients in a medium sauce pan to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Add in milk and sugar, bring back to a boil and remove from heat. Strain into mugs, sprinkle with cinnamon and serve.

Makes 2 large mugs or 4 small.

This is easy, peasy. I got my cardamom pods from the bulk bin at our food co-op. I got 3 dozen or so for $1.50.

Mix the first ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil.

Bring back to a boil, remove from heat, strain into mugs and top with cinnamon.

Enjoy the flavor and enjoy the temporary hand warmth.

      You know my husband is feeling particularly nice and charitable when he actually LETS me put my hands under his shirt. He just warms them up SO QUICK.

    Hilarious about the cold hands. I have the same problem, rings, the screeching husband, all of it. I also have a great recipe for a chai “concentrate.” I am in love with this stuff.

    1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
    1 teaspoon granulated sugar
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon cloves
    1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
    1 can (14 oz.) sweetened condensed milk

    Mix the spices and condensed milk thoroughly.
    Refrigerate at least 24 hours before using,
    and store in refrigerator.
    To use, brew a strong black or herbal tea. Stir in
    1/2 to 2 tablespoons of Chai concentrate mix
    per cup of freshly steeped tea. Will last in the refrigerator
    for about two weeks.

    Hi Cassie! Quick question from a chai lover. Your recipe calls for 1 black tea bag, but then your pictures show 2. Are you making a double batch in the pictures or should I use 2 when I try it out? This should be much kinder on my wallet than the Rishi Chocolate Chai that I’m obsessed with now, so thanks!

        Great, I think I’ll try it tonight! I couldn’t tell from the pics since there were only 6 cardamom pods, 1/4 tsp of ginger, and 2 cloves, so I wanted to wait. Thanks for your quick reply!
