my favorite snacks : caprese sticks

It occurred to me today that this blog is seriously lacking a snack component. Which is strange, because my diet pretty much revolves around snacks. I’m much more of a “snacker” than a meal-eater, so it is strange that you don’t get to see it.

I’m putting an end to that bullhockey today! This post starts a series on my favorite snacks. Many (most) of these are great snacks for office-dewellers (like I am), so you could also use these as side dishes for a packed lunch.

First up: caprese sticks.

Now I seriously love caprese salad. It is everything I love about food—simple, colorful, flavorful, fresh. Here, I just make a caprese salad into an easy-to-eat and easy-to-pack snack.

These are actually so incredibly easy that I feel a little guilty posting them. But hey, a good snack should be incredibly easy.

Ready?

Cherry tomato onto toothpick.

Basil leaf hat.

Mozzarella ball.

I get these cherry-sized cheeses from the deli section of my supermarket.

Salt + pepa.

Eat!

Each stick is only 33 calories and contains almost 3 grams of protein! 5 or 6 of these guys is a great way to hold you over between meals and pack in some veggies, dairy and protein.

Oh, and they are SO cute.

These could also be fun and healthy party appetizers.

    • Yes, I did! In the specialty cheese section in the deli/bakery area.

  7. YUM! These look great! And you’re right, they would make great appetizers.I will definitely be putting these on my list of things to try out. Lately I’ve been on a edamame kick.They sell a box of little microwaveable bags at Costco. 150 calories per bag but you get a lot for that(you could easily share with someone) and edamame is really good for you.

    • No problem! My only recommendation would be to leave the salt off until right before you serve. The salt brings out the delicious juices of the tomatoes, but can make for a messy plate.
