thirsty thursday : cold buster smoothie

I fell in love with Jamba Juice while I was visiting Boulder. And more specifically, I fell in love with their Coldbuster smoothie. Orange-y, smooth and cold, it is PERFECT for scratchy throats and scratchy throat prevention.

Unfortunately (or fortunately for my wallet), there is no Jamba Juice near me. So my first order of business upon landing in the Hoosier state? Creating my very own cold buster smoothie.

My version is a bit more creamy and less icy than the Jamba Juice version, and that makes it even tastier in my mind!

It reminds me of a creamsicle.

This is a sweet smoothie. It uses sherbet and yogurt as the base. It would be a great meal replacement! If you want to reduce the sugar, just take out the sherbet and add more plain yogurt.

Cold Buster Smoothie

1/4 c. orange sherbet
1 banana, frozen
1 clementine, peeled (or small orange)
1 c. peach slices (canned is fine), frozen
1/2 c. orange juice
1/2 c. plain Greek yogurt
Handful of ice

Blend all items in a blender until smooth. Add more ice or orange juice to adjust consistency. Makes one, very large serving. Or two, smaller servings.

Frothy and delicious!

Make sure you let your blender run long enough to pulverize those ice cubes.

Mmmmmmm….

  1. This looks delicious! I love a good smoothie, and one that helps fend off colds is just a bonus.

Question, though: in your pictures you show clementines (oranges?) in the blender with the peaches and bananas, but no clementines are mentioned in the recipe?

  2. Looks awesome! I am just coming down with a cold (bleh) so I just might have to get my hubby to run down to the store and get me the stuff for it.

  3. How do you drink smoothies in the winter?? I have them several times a week in the summer and can’t stand the thought of them when it’s cold.

    P.S. That one looks delicious.

  4. I have GOT to get some clementines for smoothies, I can only imagine how delicious this is!!

It’s actually pretty warm here too, so I’ve been enjoying smoothies again which makes me very happy!

  5. That looks so good! I will definitely give that a try when I’m not feeling so cold.

  6. Made this today as a post workout refresher. So good!

  7. That smoothie looks so good- I need to get these ingredients and make this asap! :)
