fun friday : fire drill
Oh no! Your house is on fire! You only have time to grab three things and RUN. What items do you grab? Assume that pets and humans are all out and safe, of course we’d all save our Babyfaces and Puppyfaces first.
Mine are actually quite boring and way practical.
1. My computer.
That’s my life right there. Photos, documents, music, everything. Life wouldn’t be over if I lost my computer, but it sure would be more painful. Grabbing that is like grabbing all my photo albums and entire CD collection.
2. My bag.
I long ago upgraded from a purse to a messenger bag and this would definitely need to go with me. My wallet, iPad, phone, keys, etc. all live in this diddy. Plus, I’d be super sad if I lost my awesome orange Timbuk2 bag.
3. Our jump bag.
Ready to get a dose of how dorky and over-prepared I am? We have a jump bag (AKA: an emergency kit) that lives in our hall closet for just such an occassion. We had a fire scare last summer and the second thing I grabbed, after Puppyface, was our jump bag. And every time we have a tornado warning, our jump bag has prime real estate on our bathroom floor.
This bag always has in it:
- A pair of shoes and socks for both of us (because being barefoot after a tornado sounds unpleasant)
- Water
- Human food (in the form of high-calorie energy bars)
- Puppy food
- Extra collar and leash for Puppyface
- First aid kit
- Wind up radio
- Wind up flashlight
- Copies of documents (some of which are very important because Babyface isn’t a US citizen)
- Notebook, deck of cards, pencils (nice for loooooong tornado warnings)
- Set of car keys
- Emergency blankets
- Ponchos
I know, dorky right? But believe me, I sleep SO much better knowing we are prepared. I may, or may not, have one of these in each of our cars as well.
Okay, I definitely do.
If you would have known my Papaw, you would see where I got it from. It’s genetic.
Alright, what are your three items?

That jump bag is really genius! We should all have something similar just in case! I would definitely grab:
1. my MacBook Pro
2. My purse
3. the camera, though I’m pretty sure the husband would be all over saving the camera (possibly before saving me or the puppy) so I wouldn’t have to worry about that.
Ok…so you so are not a dork! I’m putting together a jump bag for us and stuffing it in the closet
My three…
My laptop, my purse, my newly put together jump bag!
Thanks!
The jump bag is such a great idea. We live in tornado zone also and even after literally being hit by a tornado it never occurred to me to make one. One more thing that I would add to mine is a map of the area because I am new enough that I still don’t know where the towns that they are talking about on the weather radio are.
My three things: our box of important documents, our box of used camera memory cards, the jump bag. (I was really torn between the external hard drive and the camera memory cards…I should load all of the cards onto the HD…)
Now I definitely want to start a jump bag!!! What a great idea!
I would have to say (1) my computer, (2) my iPhone, and (3) my camera!
It’s hard b/c I really didn’t pick anything sentimental but with a camera and computer, I can make more sentiments!
I was just thinking about this the other day after a bunch of fire trucks showed up for a small fire next door. I’d take:
1. My journals. I’ve filled over 20 in the last 17 years, so losing them would be like losing a good portion of my life.
2. My purse (containing driver’s license, bank/credit cards, and phone).
3. Computer.
Wow, what a great idea for the bag! I should do the same thing. My biggest fear is that a fire or something starts when we’re sleeping. I don’t know why! And I work part-time at a hardware store, so you’d think I would have all the typical needs like that ready to go,,,NOPE!
My 3 things besides puppyface/people:
1. My Droid. I don’t really know many peoples’ phone #s by heart these days. sad, but true.
2. My journals with all my writing in it
3. My laptop! I already had one laptop die with all documents, pictures, etc. on it. I don’t want this baby to die too!
Wow.. LOVE the idea of a jump bag.
Love the Jump Bag! I will definetly work on one of those this weekend.
1.) Our Jump Bag – Thank you
2.) Purse
3.) Computer
