fun friday: holiday weekend plans

First of all, Happy Canada Day to all of my Canadian friends, family and readers. Heck, Happy Canada Day to anyone that loves Canada, like me! Yay Canada! I’m reppin’ properly wearing my obnoxious yellow Canada shirt.

Stay tuned for a post later today with for our fun Canada-inspired dinner. But now, let’s talk about holiday weekend plans.

What are you doing for this holiday weekend?

I am headed down to my hometown, Pekin, Indiana to spend some time with my family. There will be lots of good food (I hear something about ribs), good drinks and a ton of swimming. Of course, there will be a few toasts to both Canada and the U.S.

This will be the first family gathering at my parents’ house in nearly a year and I think everyone in the family is looking forward to it. The Broken Plow may be my childhood home, but it has definitely turned into a vacation spot now that I’m an adult. Spending the weekend out in the country eating good food and drinking good beer with my family is the best way to recharge.

Also, Pekin is world-famous because it has the longest consecutive 4th of July celebration of any town in the entire country! 4th of July in Pekin is a big deal. We’ll be headed to the parade on Monday and probably to the fireworks on Sunday night.

I seriously love fireworks.

Alrighty, your turn. What are your great patriotic plans?

We’re just staying in town for the long weekend; we’ll probably go kayaking, take walks on the beach, and enjoy awesome brews at the Portsmouth Brewery. We’re looking forward to it!

I love that you can vacation at your childhood home. That is incredibly awesome and it makes me want to create that kind of homestead for my kid(s) to come back to!

We’re staying in town this weekend, probably close to home to avoid the traffic, and just enjoying the downtime. If it’s not terrily hot and humid, I’d like to take our little one to see fireworks for the first time (she’s 4 but she HATES loud noises/explosions, so we’ve never really chanced it). We might have an impromto BBQ with a few friends, but it’s all going to be terribly low-key, which I’m SO looking forward to.

Happy Canada Day to you and C, and Happy 4th, too! Have a great holiday weekend!

Maybe she’ll be so distracted by the pretties that she’ll not care so much about the loud noises? Happy 4th!

The 3rd is my brother in law’s 30th birthday, so we will be headed to Skiatook, Oklahoma to celebrate with him. I hope we make it home the next day to enjoy the fireworks and fun at our local park. Happy Canada day and have a great 4th weekend!

We’re headed up a North for a long weekend and hitting Hershey Park on Monday! Super excited, but we had to leave our Puppyface :(

Happy Canada Day and 4th of July to you and your lovely family!!

We have to leave Puppyface, too. But she goes to a cage-free boarding place and loves it there, so it’s not too bad. :)

Happy Canada Day! I’m sporting my white “I (heart) Canada, Eh!” t-shirt today ;D

Plans this weekend (starting now) include catching up on your blog, and finding a fire to roast s’mores on. Hoping to catch some fireworks downtown on the river-front but I haven’t figured out the transit sitch yet.

(P.s. I don’t know if it is because of you or because of Philip Defranco, but I have been calling Jeff “sweetieface” and telling him that I love his face =P )
