A lot of times, when someone hears that I eat “healthy” they automatically assume that means that I eat diet food. I consider diet food anything that blasts claims on its packaging. Low-fat! Fat-free! 100-calories! Heart-healthy! I tend to think that if it needs packaging to tell us that it’s healthy, then there are probably better options out there. After all, you never see broccoli wrapped in a box with those things emblazoned on it. And you know broccoli is healthy.
The same logic applies to snacking. Those 100-calorie snack packs that are so popular now-a-days? They sound like a great calorie “deal”. Prepackaged, portion-controlled, portable snacks. They are only 100-calories, so they must be healthy, right?
Most of them are just smaller sized versions of their junk food bigger brothers. Chock full of chemicals, additives, preservatives and lacking nutrients. But fear not! I promise there are real food ways to get in your 100-calorie snacks. Head on over to the Anytime Health blog and check out some of my favorites (yes, wine is totally on the list).
