scenes from moving

This weekend was crazy. Moving is one big ball of stress, but we are in our house, our apartment is empty and we are officially Pekinites.

As I mentioned last week, things aren’t going exactly how we’d planned (do they ever?). The construction on my parents’ house is behind schedule and our apartment was re-rented, so that left us one option—living together. It’s actually worked out pretty decently. Babyface, Puppyface and I have turned the top floor of the house into our little apartment. It’s cozy, but it’ll work for the short period of time we hope to be living together.

We’ve just unpacked the essentials. Everything else (including the vast majority of our furniture) is packed away in a spare bedroom. We figured, until my parents and their furniture is out, there is no point in setting up our stuff.  It’s a little bit of a bummer not to get to “nest” in my new house. But eventually, we’ll get there.

Since I don’t have a lot to show you from the inside, I figured I’d show you some of the pictures from the move and a handful from around the property. The setback is pretty easy to take because being here is so…perfect. Puppyface gets to run around and go swimming in the lake whenever she wants. I get to pick ripe blueberries right off the bush. We’ve got a lot of hard work in our future, but we’re so happy to be here!

How was your weekend?

Is the lake good for people swimming, too? So awesome to have a lake in your backyard! My friends just moved into an old rectory that has a lake in the backyard, too. Her 6 kids love it. :)

It’s a little muddy, but totally swimable. :) We also have a pool! Which Babyface is opening up today, because we just saw the forecast and it’s supposed to be 104° this weekend! NEED POOL.

So happy the move went well and you guys and everything else made it there in one piece:) I loooooooove your kitchen!!!! Can’t wait to see all the new recipes you’ll be whipping up in there. Love the house and can’t wait for our visit in the Fall!!

I’m so happy for you, Craig and of course Puppyface! I can’t tell you how jealous I am that you get to live everyday in a place that to me has been almost like a vacation destination for as long as I can remember. Congrats and best of luck!

How awesome to move back to the home you grew up in as a child. And to be the owners of it!! Is the swing set once you used as a child? I get so sentimental over things like that.

I also noticed that you have a nice big kitchen island which will surely come in handy with all your recipe creations.

    • Cassie says

Sure is the swingset I had as a child! I’ll do you one better on sentimentally: my grandfather built that swingset using parts and pieces he found at a junkyard. :)

Yay! I’m so happy that you got moved and are happy and settling in (relatively, at least!). I know moving can be really stressful (I’ve done it… um, 10-12 times in the past six years due to college moves and crap.) but it always feels good at the end when you get to have that new home feeling. 😀

Moving in the summer is no joke!! But, I’m so glad that it looks like it went smoothly!
I think it’s so cool that you bought your parents’ home. My grandmother moved out of her house back in 2002, and it was the most amazing home. I wish I could have bought it, but I was only 22 and in no position to buy a house!

So are you considered part of the Louisville area? My dad grew up in Louisville. Went to Shawnee High. My grandma still lives in Jefffersontown.

    • Cassie says

Yeah, I’d say we’re part of the Louisville area. I’d never say “I live in Louisville,” but it’s definitely the closest metro area. We’re about 40 minutes to the city proper, and 20 minutes or so from the Indiana suburbs.

What a beautiful backyard. I am so excited for you and your little family. I too can’t wait for all of the delicious recipes that will be making their way out of your awesome new kitchen!

  9. says

Cassie it is beautiful! Congrats to you and your hubby on your gorgeous new home! (insanely jealous!!!) 😉 hehe. I uprooted from my townhouse last year to move in with my grandparents after making the decision to go back to college for business (mostly to save money so I wouldn’t have to get loans for tuition). I sooo miss having my own place and the feeling of nesting! Can’t wait to see pics when you finally settle in and can really make it your own. Congrats!

Moving is never easy but I’m sure the rewards in the end will be well worth it. You have a beautiful piece of land. I can’t wait to see more pics. Now try and get some rest this week. You’ve been working way hard!!!
