confessions…

Posted on Oct 16, 2012 in Lifestyle

1. I don’t shoot in RAW. I know. My photos would be better if I did, but I use an older EyeFi card and it wont transfer RAW photos wirelessly and I am too compulsively disorganized to find my camera transfer cord every time I need it. So…yeah. Eventually one day I might upgrade my EyeFi card. Maybe.

2. I ate about two dozen pumpkin spice cream cheese cake balls this past week. They were so good that I should share the recipe with you. But that would require me making them again so I could photograph them (and figure out the recipe amounts). And that would require them existing in this house again. Which would mean I’d eat another two dozen. Which is just not okay. Maybe I’ll make them again sometime in the next 4-7 years. I’m sorry. It’s self-preservation. Me + cake balls = all moderation out the damn window.

3. I spent my entire day Saturday sitting in front of the fireplace drinking coffee. It didn’t suck. #sorrynotsorry

4. I went to a football game two weeks ago. And it was awesome (go Colts!), but I was so distracted by all the rude people around me that I couldn’t enjoy the game as much as a die-hard sports fan like myself should be able to. Why is rudeness so okay? When did it become acceptable to yell really disgusting obscenities at people? Or to get fall-down drunk in public? Call me old-fashioned, but damn, have some respect for yourself and the people around you. We’re all in this life together, even if we are cheering for different teams, we need to cut each other some slack. See. Look. I still love my sister-in-law, Kim, even if she is a Packers fan. It’s just sports people. Just. Sports.

4. I don’t hate Apple Maps. In fact, I might even like it. It’s shiny and does turn-by-turn direction-y stuff all nice-like. Does that mean I’m not one of the cool kids? Oh wait. Nevermind. I never was.

Do you have any confessions to share?

  1. I don’t shoot in RAW either! I used to, but then I never uploaded my pics because it was always such a pain, and they would all need to be converted before using them… I am not sorry. JPEG it is.

    • The only big difference is see with shooting RAW is that I can correct white balance issues a lot easier than I can with JPG (white balance issues are the bane of my existence). But the hassle isn’t worth that benefit!

  2. Love your confessions. If I had one about photography, it’s that all of the pictures that ever end up online were shoot on my phone. I don’t even own a regular camera anymore. We registered for one, though ;)

    • I’m kinda obsessed with my iPhone camera. :P I never ever carry my big camera anymore. I only use it for fancy-pants food shots.

      • Well, your fancy pants camera makes food look like it should be on a restaurant menu :D

If you need more subject matter, feel free to post more pics of PF!!

  3. Cassie…those cake balls look SO good. I’m sure they tasted amazing and it’s no wonder one cannot exercise willpower over yummy desserts!! And sitting all day in front of the fireplace…so comforting…wish I had a fireplace. And I SO KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN about rude people lately!! What’s going on with everyone? Last time I went to a movie, so many people were talking (loudly), playing on their phones (loudly) and I just thought…”I PAID (a lot) of money to be this annoyed :) ” Love your confessions and your blog.

    • I wish everyone was just a touch more considerate. I’m not saying everyone has to go around handing out $100 bills to everyone they see (wouldn’t that be awesome?) but just a little bit of consideration would go a long way to make this world a much better place.

  4. I have the Apple Maps on my iPad and it’s not too bad… but the lack of public transportation directions made it a no-fly on my phone since I work in the city and rely heavily on the trains. Once they get that up and running, then I’ll consider updating to it.

I am very sad that there will not be a recipe for those cake balls, but I totally understand!

    • Yuck, I didn’t know about the public transportation thing. Our idea of “public transportation” in Pekin is a hayride. :P Are they working on adding that info now?

  5. I don’t shoot. At all. Well, I know I’m capable. I can take a pretty decent picture. But they’re rarely planned, and I’m too lazy to actually learn and remember all the technical stuff about making photo-art beyond point-and-shoot.

And I know all-too-well about the rude football peeps. I get embarrassed when people around me yell at the high school refs, coaches, and teams. Not only is it “just. sports” — it’s high school just. sports. Too much emotional investment in the Friday night lights…

    Fun post!

    • Oh gosh! High school sports. It’s basketball here. High school basketball in Indiana = the biggest deal ever.

  6. Confession: I have no idea what RAW is and am a horrible photographer.

And, I totally agree with you about rude people. We have been at several concerts where the people around us have nearly ruined the experience…taking pictures, texting, talking loudly….ugh! Seriously people: put your damn phone away when you are sitting 10 feet from the performer! It is RUDE!

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!

  7. I don’t shoot raw unless I am shooting people. And since your photos turn out amazing, there is nothing to fret!

  8. I got a really nice camera for Christmas last year and I’m doing my best to ALWAYS shoot in manual and RAW so I can learn how to use my camera!

  9. I don’t shoot in RAW either. :)
And don’t get me started about rude sports fans. There’s a difference between being passionate and being an ASS. I went to a Redskins/Patriots game last year (Greg’s a Pats fan, and we live near DC- it was a home game) and I could not believe the rudeness. The worst was a few adult men sitting behind us yelling “F this and that” the whole time. Around kids!

  10. I’ve been wanting to tell you this for a while. Every time you have a confession post, “Confessions Part II” by Usher starts playing in my head. EVERY.TIME. (This isn’t really a bad thing, it’s just a weird thing my brain seems to do.)

Also, talking about a good recipe, but not posting it, or even a completely Beta/this isn’t tested/let’s crowd source this thing into perfection method… you are being a totally cake tease. ;)

  11. I caught that you were reading your own blog in front of the fireplace! And speaking of rude people, there were kids riding their scooters in the supermarket over the weekend. What kind of person lets their kids do that?

  12. Jealous of your fire! It’s not cold enough here to light ours yet, but should be soon. Sounds like a great way to spend the day.

  13. Don’t…. shoot…. in…. RAW……????

    Butbutbutbutbutbutbut….

Ah, whatever. Who am I to talk? I’ve gotten so lazy with my photos lately that 80% of what I’ve been posting (when I post pictures at all) have been from my iPhone. ::shrug:: I’m sure it’ll come back around, and then I’ll be able to chastise you forreals. ;)

  14. I’m with you on the obnoxious sports fans + the apple maps confessions. The Husband and I get season tickets to Vanderbilt football every year [we're alums and it's our annual contribution :) ] and I just barely enjoy going to the games. Last week we had a real jerk behind us who does that piercing whistle with every cheer. You know the one? Asked him kindly, but sternly, to stop or at least direct the whistle anywhere but directly into our ears. He didn’t. Ugh.

And I like the maps app, too! At least it’s working a-ok for me in Nashville. But I drive everywhere seeing as our city is quite behind on the public transportation thing.
