confessions…

Posted on Oct 30, 2012 in Lifestyle

1. I love making them, but I rarely use my own printables. Not because I don’t want to. I really want to, but because I’m totally a closeted spreadsheet lover. Especially when it comes to keeping track of stuff like All About the Numbers. Don’t tell my art school professors that I get way giddy when I successfully rock a complicated Excel formula. You should see our budget spreadsheet. Swoon. #nerd

2. I came thisclose to playing Christmas music this weekend. I was curled up next to Puppyface in front of the fire and all of our Christmas records were just begging to be put on the turntable. But I didn’t. It’s so much more special for me if I wait. And, I’m trying to get better about that whole wishing time away thing. I still have two holidays to enjoy before Christmas comes ’round!

3. I’m really sad hockey isn’t happening. Like, way more sad than I ever thought I could be about hockey. I miss the Hawks.

4. We spent $65 at the Goodwill this weekend. Do you have any idea how much stuff you have to buy to get up to $65 at the Goodwill? Let’s just say the cashier literally brought out a trash bag to put our purchases in.

5. Speaking of money, we spent $1300 on groceries in the last month. Granted, that’s not an average month, but I bet your grocery bill is looking pretty good right now, isn’t it? In related news, we’ll be living on beans and rice for the rest of the year.

Do you have any confessions to share?

  1. I love scoring awesome Goodwill finds! Can’t say I ever spent that much there :)

  2. See, I’m completely horrible and hopeless with Excel! I may know how to code my way out of a paper bag, but when it comes to Excel, I’m pretty much stuck. I MAYBE know how to do sums, and that’s about it. I should play around with it more!

  3. I was wishing for Christmas music this weekend too, but that’s because it was snowing! I found some fun decorations at Grocery outlet that I stopped myself from buying just yet…our contractor is going to build us a faux mantle for the fireplace – can’t wait!!!

  4. Ya know, I was sad about not having hockey, but now I’m mostly just pissed about it. I’m not even sure I’ll watch should it come back this season.

    :(

  5. I am the rock excel spreadsheets like it’s my job.

    Actually it is my job.

So now you know who to call if you’re ever have an excel formula question.

  6. I’m an excel nerd too and I love it. I created my own budgeting spreadsheet a while back and it’s TOTALLY helped me keep my finances in order and prepare for upcoming expenses. I’d really be interseted to see a budgeting post. Maybe you’d be willing to share some of your budgeting spreadsheet info? I’m always looking for ways to improve mine.

    • Ditto on this request! I am not happy with my budget tracking system now and would love to not reinvent the wheel!

  7. Your exorbitant grocery bill makes me feel a bit relieved, honestly. :) I know you had Thanksgiving and all that, but between my husband and I we spend probably upwards of $900 a month. And I can drop $125 at the farm store and still need to pick stuff up during the week, even after careful planning. How does that happen??

  8. $1300?! I want to see the breakdown of that figure! :) The recipes you post always seem inexpensively fancy.

  9. Hey Cassie – I’m a spreadhseet nut too! I use them at work all the time! Would you mind sharing your budget spreadsheet template?? I made but it’s pretty basic haha. Thanks :)

  10. I’m really sad that hockey isn’t happening right now, either. As a resident of the “State of Hockey” I can tell you many people are mourning it here, especially with our big free agent pickups in the off season. I guess we’ll just have to wait some more… *sigh*

  11. We’re sad about hockey too, my BF actually bought Avalanche season tickets for the first time ever, and now there’s no season to use the tickets on. We went and watched a college game, but it’s not the same. I’m scared for him now too, he’s going to have to find a hobby so he has something to do now that baseball is over.

  12. I totally love spreadsheets also – so neat and organized!

  13. I always feel guilty about my grocery bill. Every week as I’m putting the food away I think to myself “oh, next week we won’t need that much stuff because whatever I bought today will last a long time!” And every week I spend just as much as the week before. Oh well, I’d feel even more guilty if I was pulling through a drive through every day. Good food is worth it. (p.s. this was posted on my birthday! thanks for making me feel better about myself on my special day. haha)
