what i ate wednesday: warming up

Posted on Nov 7, 2012 in Food

We’ve officially reached the time of year where I want nothing to do with cold food. Bring on the oatmeal, the soups, and a whole vat or two of coffee.

  1. I’m in love, I’m in love and I don’t care who knows it! With coffee. So warm. So yummy. So energizing.
  2. This is what my bowl of oatmeal may have look liked if I remember to take a picture. In reality, my oats had chia seeds, trail mix and Cookie Butter on them. They were delicious.
  3. Lunch was a big bowl of Trader Joe’s Latin Black Bean Soup plus a taco-y salad thing on the side (made from romaine, tomatoes, refried beans and salsa) and a nice pile of chips. I’m so over salads. Salads are definitely not November food.
  4. Lunch dessert. The 72 ounce bag of chocolate chips from Costco? Maybe not my best move ever.
  5. Giant bowl of minestrone plus some garlic bread and a glass of wine. Consumed in front of the most recent Mythbusters episode.
  6. A few of the 250 mini Canadian chocolate bars that my mother-in-law brought us from North of the border for dessert.

What’s the best thing you’ve eaten so far this week?

  1. Best thing this week was carrot and ginger soup with sauted vegetables. Just what I wanted. I don’t mind cold food, even in winter which is good as breakfast and lunch at work at are normally cold but the types of food I want to eat are changing and I’m sad about losing all the interesting fruit, though pomegranates are due any day now!

  2. Hold on a second, you don’t have the treat size chocolate bars in the States? What do you hand out for Halloween? That blows my mind!

    • We do have treat sized bars, but there are a lot of Canadian candy bars that you can’t get in the States—Coffee Crisp, Aeros, Mr. Big, Crispy Crunch, Wonderbars, Smarties, etc.

  3. Did you make that minestrone?? I NEED the recipe!

    • Nope! Well, sorta. It was a soup mix from a local farm market. I just added it to some broth and tomatoes. Done and done!

  4. Salads take a backseat for me in the Winter also. I had a bowl of roasted veggies, some acorn squash, tuna & coconut oil for dinner the other night & it was SO YUM! I could easily eat an entire HUGE bag of chocolate chips if they were around :)

  5. I LOVE the way you do your WIAW posts. :)
Oh man, a bowl of chocolate chips is the best! Oh wait- the best is when you also add raisins and peanuts. :)

  6. Cadbury Crunchie’s are the greatest candy bar EVER. I used to be able to find them at World Market, but now I just beg my cousins to bring me some when they visit from Europe!
