confessions…
1. I have no idea who to root for in the Super Bowl. The only tie I have to either team is that Joani Crean is the sister of the two Harbaugh brothers. And Joani Crean is the wife of Tom Crean. Who is the coach of my Indiana Hoosiers. But that doesn’t help me pick a team to back in the Super Bowl. Who should I cheer for, internet?
2. Speaking of football, my favorite episode of any TV show ever may have been last week’s Parks & Rec episode. So much Indiana love. I may or may not have squealed aloud when Andrew Luck and Reggie Wayne showed up. And let’s talk about how Andy Dwyer is one of the best characters on TV, k?
3. I’m trying really hard to not be negative on social media. I think Twitter and Facebook can be such positive and inspiring place when we want them to be. But sometimes, I feel like I’m walking into a dark cloud of negativity when I check my timeline. So, I’m trying to not add to the negativity. It’s not easy, but it doesn’t really help anyone when I tweet about the annoying driver who didn’t use their turn signal. And, personally, it doesn’t help me either (although, I understand ranting is a legitimately effective way to relieve stress for some folks). Before I send a tweet or update my Facebook status, I’ve been asking myself, “When someone else sees this, will it improve their day, make it worse, or not impact them at all?” I’m probably over-thinking it, but sometimes I feel like I forget how much my words mean. And I’d like to start remembering. This also means that I’ve written and deleted no less than 44,030 tweets in the last few weeks.
4. I love toe socks.
5. I can’t get the thought of hiking the Grand Canyon from rim-to-rim out of my head. I’ve never seen the Grand Canyon, and I think hiking the whole thing would be such an incredible way to see it for the first time. Plus, I can’t even imagine the sense of accomplishment that comes from tackling that. One day…
Do you have any confessions to share?

Confession: I AM ADDICTED TO CANDY CRUSH SAGA. And so are you.
I was. Until I got to the point where it’s like “To play more you have to annoy people on Facebook or pay money.” That isn’t cool, dude!
You can annoy me, babe.
Chris Pratt is one of my faves! I loved when he was on Top Chef, and the fact that he was just as fun in that environment.
In regards to the Super Bowl, I have no clue who I am rooting for, and will probably just root for good commercials!
We’re going to be in Canada for the Super Bowl! They don’t get the good commercials there.
Womp. Womp.
RAVENS HOW IS THIS EVEN A QUESTION?!?!
BECAUSE THEY KNOCKED OUT THE COLTS AND I’M STILL BITTER, K?
Come on now….
trust me we’re all still bitter in Baltmore about the Colts leaving us.
Yes! Root for the RAVENS, hon!
RAVENS!!!
Yay!!!! Go Ravens!!!!!
The Super Bowl thing is tricky. My general policy, when I don’t have any specific rooting interest, is to root for the team who has gone the longest since winning the championship (the 49ers, says Wikipedia). But then the 49ers are one of the Super Bowl-winningest franchises in the NFL!
But then there is also the issue that your beloved Colts were appropriated from Baltimore in the first place, and I think it’s good karma to wish Baltimore as much football joy as you can for all the football joy their loss of the Colts has brought to you.
Except then also the Ravens were appropriated from Cleveland, so if you have any ties to Cleveland, which has experienced very little football joy in the Super Bowl era, you might prefer to root against the Ravens.
TL;DR=Root for Baltimore unless you have some abiding sympathy with the people of Cleveland.
There is also the fact that I really like the Ravens’ colors and I’m pretty burnt out on the whole red thing the 49ers have going on. But the Ravens knocked out the Colts! Can I just root for Beyonce instead?
Personal bitterness counts as a rooting interest (I continue to hate the Atlanta Braves because they knocked the Astros out of the playoffs several times MORE THAN A DECADE AGO).
Kind of sounds to me like you’re cheering for the 49ers, but mostly you hope both teams will play poorly.
I’m so with you on the Facebook negativity feeling. Part of my new years resolution was to back off of the book a bit because I got riled up over putrid nonsense every time I scrolled through. I’ve since made changes to only see updates that I’m 99% certain won’t annoy me and try to only put out positive vibes. So far I can already see the difference in my day to day mood.
I’ve been doing a lot of Facebook refining, too. Removing people, hiding updates. It’s refreshing, isn’t it? Suddenly it’s fun again to check Facebook and see updates from people you really like and care about as opposed to that random girl who stole your boyfriend in 8th grade.
I’m way negative on social media. I really need to stop. But I’m having a rough time right now and I sometimes need to let it out. But… I should focus more on positivity.
I agree, sometimes you need to let it out. And that’s why I said venting works for some folks, it just doesn’t seem to make anything better for me, so I try to skip it.
I am cheering for San Fran, only because it is one of my favorite cities ever. I have secret hopes of getting to live there one day and if I do, loving the 49′ers will be a must!! However, I am really a Texans fan!!!
49ers, and here’s why:
That Coach Harbaugh was a Colt.
The Ravens beat our Colts.
Therefore, by extension, we are still rooting for the Colts.
I thought that, too! But then I realized that the Ravens have Tandon Doss, who played for IU. I’M SO CONFLICTED!
That Coach Harbaugh was also a Raven.
I am totally going with the Ravens. I had every intention of going with the 49ers because the Ravens beat my Colts, but then I was all like, “Okay, Ray Lewis’ last Super Bowl? COME ON.” So I will be with the Ravens, I have to say.
And I agree with the negativity thing on social media … or in the world, PERIOD. Negativity is a state of mind and some people just live in that dark, depressing place. It’s easy to get sucked in, too. I’m trying really, really hard not to be so negative myself and that makes it really, really easy to see it all around you. It’s like a disease … a very contagious disease.
I’m confused as to the whole Ray Lewis love thing. I mean, I know he’s been around forever and he’s retiring, but all I know him for is that whole murder thing. Didn’t he plead guilty to killing a guy in a plea deal like a decade ago? Am I remembering wrong? I’m just so confused because everyone is all like, “Oh! We love Ray Lewis.” and I’m all like, “Oh, but didn’t he kill someone?” Correct me if I’m wrong, Ravens fans!

Not a fan of his, AT ALL!
I LOVE RAY LEWIS. And no, he did not kill anyone. I am really, really sick of people saying that. Not saying that he was 100% innocent, but no- he never murdered anyone. He has also completely turned his life around and donated so much money and time to charities and has done amazing things for Baltimore.
I have seen him run through the tunnel in person over a dozen times, and there is just something magic about his energy and spirit. I became a Ravens fan the year that they won the Superbowl back in 2001, because I was in college living in Baltimore and it was just an amazing time.
So yes, I’m a little passionate about them and Ray. People will say negative things no matter what, I just try to ignore it.
That’s awesome to know that he’s done so much. I figured I had missed some part of the story if so many people were singing his praises.
Indeed. I don’t care if people love Ray, but if they’re going to hate on him, it should at least be based upon fact (or just opinion – but at least not lies).
Note: Not aimed at you, Cassie. I know that a lot of people incorrectly associate Lewis with murder because it’s a common misconception that spreads like wildfire.
I actually met the Parks & Rec dudes when they were filming in Indy! They were super cool and nice.
As an Indianapolis resident and an IU grad (I was relying on the Crean connection, too), I have no idea whom to root for, either. I’m basically rooting for the 49ers based on this Buzzfeed article I read about Colin Kaepernick’s family: http://www.buzzfeed.com/ktlincoln/the-coolest-nfl-dad-is-a-cheese-executive-who-twee
I’M SO JEALOUS! And that Buzzfeed article is awesome!
Jealous too.
1. I have never watched the Super Bowl. I’m okay with that.
2. I love tabi socks.
49ers!! Only because I am beyond upset that the Patriots lost
The Ravens seem to have a knack for making Tom Brady choke and that is reason enough for them to not deserve this Superbowl win.
Hiking the Grand Canyon is a dream of mine too…
Finally, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to deactivate Facebook for three months for many reasons but one being the negativity it breeds and so far I don’t miss it at all!! Which is shocking since I checked it obsessively. I have been more productive & positive. No Facebook FTW!
That right there is reason enough for me TO root for the Ravens. Down with the evil, evil Pats!
I’m rooting for Beyonce. I confess that I know next to nothing about football and don’t care a lick about the game but I’m throwing a party anyways. That’s normal, right?
1. RAVENS! I’m a Raven hater all year long (GO STEELERS) but once we’re out it’s all about the AFC North. And it’s Ray Lewis’ last season and I want him to win just like the Bus got to. Plus he’s an awesome guy that I admire off the field.
2. Girl! I have up Facebook over 6 months ago and haven’t missed anything! With blogs and Pinterest my life is still full.
3. If you ever make it to the Grand Canyon swing through Vegas and Hoover Dam. I’d love to meet you and take you and your hubby to Max Brenner. <3 my vegas!
I am a HUGE Green Bay Packers Fan, I was raised on the frozen tundra, lots of beer and cheese…. ANYWAYS…. The 49ers beat my Packers in the playoffs. The played a very good game, which the Packers failed to bring their defense. With that said, I am going to root for the 49ers as they cleary deserve this trip to the Super Bowl.
One last thought! Regarding hiking the Grand Canyon, I recently finished reading Wild, by Cheryl Strayed. She hiked the Pacific Crest, 1100 miles alone after a series of life altering issues. Anyways, it was an awesome book, and like you stated, the “Feeling of Accomplishment”, it has so motivated me to attempt a long backpack trip. Just haven’t picked my spot yet. Truthfully, I won’t do it alone though, but it is a really good book.
First, yes, Ravens please. But you knew I’d say that.
Also- I totally thought of you when I watched Parks and Rec last week and wondered if you watched it! I also really loved when the guys all sang “Shoop” because I had just sang it to my husband in the car word for word earlier that day when it came on the radio(he did not like that).
I want to hike the Grand Canyon too!
One more thing- negative Facebook people. They drive me crazy. I have a friend that gives me the exact same reaction any time she updates her status. I think “Man, your life sucks.”
We should organize a blog friend Grand Canyon hiking trip!
I think you’re being too hard on yourself about the negative comments on social media. When someone rants about something I can relate to, I think “Right on!”
My confession: I’m not positive when the Super Bowl is. Is it this weekend? I’m more of a social football watcher than an actual knowledgeable fan.
I’ll do the Grand Canyon with you!! And, if you come out west I’m only 30 minutes from Zion National Park (well, we will be when we move this spring) and honestly I like it better than the Grand Canyon. You can stay at our place too. Really. Any how, there is a hike called Angel’s Landing and it is supposed to be nuts – crazy steep and up to this super high place and people die falling off the edge (not that that part is appealing) but it would be a crazy cool thing to do. Let me know when you come out!!!
Ravens!! Ray Lewis, 17 years in the league, retiring. Plus, Kaepernick seems kinda cocky, he is young and has lots of time to win and I just generally don’t like the 49er’s. Also…all my teams have been out for a while, so I’m just not that invested, but Ravens!
I know I’m a little late to the party but I’ve hiked the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim and it is amazing, start thinking about it now and when you’d like to go. They have a lottery system for camping permits in the canyon so you will want to know when they open them up for registration.
Other than that it is amazing! You will never push yourself so hard or be prouder then when you finally climb out of the dang thing!
