let’s talk top chef!

top chef

Alright guys, who is ready to talk about this week’s Top Chef episode? I know some folks are saving up episodes for later, so I’m going to hide this week’s discussion under a jump to make sure we don’t spoil any of the fun for anyone.

let's dish...

Thanks to this episode Craig and I got the most ridiculous craving for fried chicken. We’re actually making it for dinner tonight! I only wish we had this beautiful view at this beautiful table to eat it at.

First things first—I’m SO happy they didn’t send Brooke home. For a second there, I thought she was out, but it became pretty obvious pretty quick that it was between Stefan and Josie. As much as I wanted Josie to get sent home (and I definitely did a little dance when she did leave), I’m not sure she deserved it. I think Stefan totally missed the mark. I love a good Chicken Cordon Bleu (even though, apparently, the judges think it’s trashy eats) but it ain’t fried chicken. I understand wanting to put your own little twist on it, but turning it into a whole other dish is not a twist.

I was so happy to see Josh do well! Sometimes I feel like Top Chef can be pretty elitist, and while I know Josh is a professionally trained chef, I feel like he’s reppin’ the home cooks, too. I feel like he is doing dishes that would be in a restaurant I’d love to go to—and man, I’d absolutely love to nosh on some of his smoked fried chicken. As big of a fan of Brooke I am (and Sheldon, too) I think Josh might be peaking at the perfect time to take the whole competition. He really seems to be coming into his own. Instead of trying to go crazy with dishes, he’s doing what he knows best. I loved it when he was presenting his fried chicken and after everyone else made their long and drawn out explanations he just said, “Well, I made fried chicken.” I hope he keeps up the momentum!

Can I get a “hallelujah!” that we don’t have to listen to Josie anymore? But everyone else said my fried chicken was good! But my fryer didn’t work! But there wasn’t enough time! But, but, but… Buh-bye. Now that she is gone, I’d be happy with pretty much anyone else winning. I’m thinking next week is Lizzie’s week to go home. bravo, top chef

Alright, which dish was your favorite from this week? Who do you think will be next to go home? Also, don’t forget to vote to Save a Chef. I’m voting to save Chef CJ!

  1. ***SPOILER***

I am so freakin’ glad Josie is finally gone! I’ve hated her from day one and every episode that she stayed and a better chef went home filled me with rage!! I like Kristen a lot and hope she comes back.

As for the remainder, I like Brooke and Sheldon. While Sheldon doesn’t seem like a “top chef” in looks/attitude (maybe it’s the easy going Hawaiian attitude) I think he’s a good cook. Everything he makes looks delicious.

    I like Brooke’s creativity.

I also am glad Josie left, I definitely think there have been previous eliminations when she should have been sent. At this point I’m still rooting for Kristen. This week’s Last Chance Kitchen was just the icing on the cake for eliminations. I also really like Sheldon and Brooke, and I think you’re right, unless something crazy happens next week Lizzie will be the next to go.

  3. I am so glad they sent Josie home instead of Brooke! They had me sweating it there for a bit though, I thought Brooke was going to get the boot. Sheldon and Brooke are my favorites and I agree, still rooting for Kristen to win out on Last Chance Kitchen.

I am glad that Josie is gone too, and that Kristen beat her in LCK. She was sooo full of excuses, and the laugh. I can’t even imagine living or working with that during the show!

I am excited that Sheldon’s fried chicken recipe is on the Top Chef site!! To the Asian mart we will go to attempt to make it his way at home! http://www.bravotv.com/foodies/recipes/umami-drumsticks-and-thighs-wings-with-usukuchi-and-grape-seed-oil
