I’m Cassie. I’m a Midwestern girl trying to live a healthy life without being too crazy about it. I’m a lover of fresh veggies, bright colors, craft beer, hiking, funky eyeglasses, and really, really dark chocolate.

Much as I love the Narnia books, I kind of feel this isn’t really a motivational quote, seeing as he’s basically promoting Christianity and the concept that yeah, suffering in this life, but it’s ok cos woo Heaven. I know I’m biased because of my intense dislike of organised religion… I just find it really off-putting when it appears in an unexpected context (aka a healthy living blog or whatever). That said I’m not about to stop reading your blog or anything! just having a whinge :p
I think quotes are kinda inherently out of context. So that fact alone makes them a blank canvas for your own interpretation. For me, this quote is about looking ahead in this life, instead of focusing on what’s in the rear view mirror. But I’m sorry if its offensive to you. Thanks for sticking around!
I agree with Cassie that quotes are, by nature, out of context, and what makes something quotable is that is can be added to different contexts and still be relevant. If you want to read religion into it, it might be closer to the author’s original intent, but the way it is being used here is just as effective without a Christian back-story.
If she were to post a quote by Buddah, should I be offended because I’m not on the path to Nirvana? Even if there is wisdom in his words?
FYI, I was raised by very strict religious folks, who really turned me off organized religion. BUT despite knowing that C.S. Lewis was a huge promoter of Christianity, that interpretation did not even occur to me when I read the quote, I took it as you meant it. Just keep looking ahead – in life – because good things are on the horizon. Just my two cents.
P.S. You are totally a closeted Ravens fan!! (Purple Monday!)
