confessions…
1. As excited and grateful I am to be jobless, I am also the kind of terrified that you can’t even really put into words. I don’t do well making leaps. And this leap is a doozy. My emotions are alternating between this and this.
2. I don’t really like Thought Catalog. Yes, I realize this makes me either old or out-of-touch. Or maybe both.
3. I feel guilty whenever I bring reusable grocery bags from one store into a different store. I have these really amazing canvas Trader Joe’s bags that are my favorites, but it feels way wrong to load them up with my Whole Foods or Rainbow Blossom goodies.
4. I busted my blender motor again. This is twice now. I love you, KitchenAid, but your blenders just can’t handle my addiction to frozen fruit smoothies. In related news, who wants to buy me a VitaMix?
5. I like Jon Stewart more than I like Stephen Colbert. There, I said it.

I heart my vitamix and don’t regret buying it AT ALL! I saved for about 6 months for it but I am sooooo happy we made the splurge.
You’re not alone! I like both of their shows, but Jon Stewart takes the cake for sure.
We lost a few blenders to our frozen fruit addictions. We’ve learned to let the fruit sit in the fridge overnight!
1. Trader Joe’s canvas bags are seriously, the best quality inexpensive bag out there. For that reason alone, I have no qualms with taking their bags elsewhere. Other stores need better bags if they want the extra advertising.
2. Based on reviews at Amazon, I went with an Oster blender. So much cheaper, but much better quality. Kitchenaid might rock the mixer, but their blenders suck. I won’t buy a Vitamix because they’re too darn expensive. Get a well-reviewed Oster.
Get a Kitchen Aid (or whoever you like) stick blender. So much cheaper, more powerful and less mess!
I love my stick blender too. It makes pureeing soups a pleasurable activity, for one thing. I’ve never tried using it to make a smoothie, though. I guess you could make it in a Tervis or something…?
I have a Ninja Master Prep blender and I LOVE it for smoothies. It has dual blades, so it gets everything mixed really well. I use ice and frozen fruit in mine every time and haven’t had any issue. Of course, I’ve only had it since Christmas, so who knows what will happen as I use it more.
I too have burnt out several kitchen aide blender motors, 3 to be exact. I really want a Ninja (maybe because the name is cool?) But I’m afraid of spending a chunk of change on it and then it burning out on me.
Also, who doesn’t like Stewart more than Colbert? John seems funnier to me AND he’s in Half-Baked. Win, win.
I get your blender troubles. Before you splurge on a Vitamix at least check Youtube for Blendtec. My christmas present this year and i am beyond happy with it. High speed. And yes – high priced. But very worth it. Blendtec can make smoothie out of anything.
A cheaper althernative is a Ninja. Not quite so pricey but still awesome. I gave mine away only because I got the Blendtec. The only thing a Ninja can’t do – at least from my experience – is fresh greens in smoothies. It sorta shreds them into confetti.
YESSSS!!! I was going to leave this same comment but was going to say Blendtec > VitaMix for SURE!!!
I went throudh 2 kitchenaids quickly. I ended up with a Blendtec because of the 20% coupon at Bed Bath And Beyond. Totally worth it.
Also not ashamed to say I like Stewart more too. Also, I think they types of grocery stores you’re talking about are probably just pleased you’re bringing any resuable bag! They all sound like the green heart kind of stores
I have the Ninja because the Vitamix price tag was too rich for my blood and I love it.
Haha I feel guilty with the reusable bags, too. And I also dislike Thought Catalog! I love your Confessions posts
They always make me feel like I’m not alone…
I would like to jump on the Blendtec comment train…we got ours refurbished on super sale ($279) because their warranties (even for refurbs) are amazing. Check Fatwallet.com for sales on refurbs, they seem to have them often.
Also I prefer Jon Stewart over Stephen Colbert as well!
I use an Oster…I think? Might be Black & Decker; I got it at Target, and I love it. It does pretty good with frozen fruit. One trick I’ve always used is to put the liquid in first. Throw in a cup or so of almond milk, orange juice, even water and then throw in the fruit, and you’re basically good to go.
I’ll confess that I’ve never even heard of Thought Catalog. I clicked over and went through the first few pages, but I didn’t find a since article that I would even consider reading. Oh well.
When I shop at Trader Joe’s, I use my TJs bags. When I shop at Whole Foods, I use my Whole Foods bags. It just seems right!
For everything else, I use these AWESOME ones that fold up into a teeny tiny ball and I carry them in my purse made by Envirosax. Have you ever seen them? I AM OBSESSED- they are gorgeous and worth every penny! envirosax [dot] com
I seriously have about 100 reusable bags. Chances are I am more than likely not shopping at a store that coordinates with my bag.
Jon Stewart definitely wins! I have a magic bullet that takes care of frozen fruit pretty well…not that I’d turn down a free vitamix
I totally feel guilty bringing my Trader Joe’s bags to Whole Foods and visa versa. Although, the guilt I have of NOT bringing my own bags outweighs it so I suck it up and use whatever bags I have with me.
About the blenders…I’m adding to the ninja blender love.I’ve had it for over a year and it’s still going strong. It has 2 separate blades inside that are super sharp. I use it as a food processor and a blender. I use it to make dough for pie crusts, to chop up veggies, for making smoothies and sorbets with tons of frozen fruit, pureeing boiled veggies for soup, pretty much everything. (I even used it to grind up soap for home made laundry detergent) I think it came from walmart for about $50. I really haven’t had any problems with it, I even use it to make some recipes off the blendtec website.
