Is that what you pegged me to be? The Creative part struck me as the yooj—I’ve pretty much been labeled “a Creative” since the first time my parents handed me a box of crayons—but I was surprised to see the Intellectual and Caregiver ones pop up. Maybe it wouldn’t be a surprise to those outside of this brain of mine, but I never felt like those two qualities were dominant in my personality. But, then again, when I started to click around my curated content for those two archetypes, I found myself decidedly interested in what was there. At first I thought, “Well, probably any content on any of the archetypes tabs would interest me!” but then I started clicking around and while some intrigued me (like Athlete and Fashionista) others didn’t draw my interest nearly as much. I found it particularly interesting because the same story was being covered on all the archetypes—the President’s inauguration, but all with slightly tweaked headlines and photos that would appeal to that particular archetype. It really proved to me that delivery method means so much when you’re working with different audiences. For example, this photo and headline from the Rebel archetype didn’t really appeal to me. I have no interest in seeing President Obama drinking beer (good for him?). Although, I supposed that’s the kind of thing some people dig?
But this photo from the Caregivers section really spoke to me. It’s not really all that different from the one above—the President holding a child—but the emotion of the photograph and headline moved me more.
I honestly wasn’t expecting to learn a ton about myself from this ArchetypeMe experience, but seeing a very obvious example of how I absorb content online through my personality lens is fascinating! I’ve been in marketing for about a decade now, and I thought I could see through all the tricks, but I guess even I can be fooled when the content is generated specifically based on my personality.
